Week commencing 15.11.21.

On Monday 15th November we marked the start of Anti-Bullying week with an Odd Socks Day. The aim of the day was to encourage children to express themselves and to celebrate our individuality. We all watched an odd socks video about anti-bullying and during the day thought about ways we can be kind to each other.

On Friday 19th November we marked Children in Need 2021. The children have enjoyed coming into class in an array of colourful outfits and costumes. We even had a dinosaur! Thank you for all your donations!

RE

This week we focused on Christian places of worship. We looked at photos from different churches and discussed things we might see inside a church. On Wednesday we visited St Paul’s Church. Katy, the Children’s Minister talked to us about the church. We had to look carefully to spot special items and had time to ask Katy lots of questions about church.

English

In English we continued our work on Lila and the Secret of Rain. We started the week identifying Lila’s thoughts and feelings. We have begun to write our own stories using full sentences based on the text.

Maths

In Maths we have been working hard at counting back and finding the difference. Children have been subtracting to find the difference, using cubes to support them and forming number sentences to show their calculations.

Geography

As a class, we discussed and looked at a range of different maps. Using Google Maps, we located our school. We looked carefully to see what else was nearby to our school for example Newbold Common and Campion Hills. We also identified the key on the map and other nearby buildings.

D.T.

On Thursday, half of the class tasted 4 different types of salad dishes that contained root vegetables.  We encouraged each other to try all the foods on offer. We were very brave!

We looked at the eat well plate and discussed the different food groups.  We talked about why eating fruit and vegetables was so important, as they provide us with vitamins and minerals.

We are now aiming to eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables per day !

After tasting the salads, we completed an evaluation sheet.  We then made a tally chart to find the group’s favourite type of salad, which was the Pasta Salad.
