Curriculum
Intent
To provide a rich, engaging, varied and inspiring curriculum which has its roots based on our school values and underpinned by our Christian faith.
St Paul’s curriculum will be driven through quality research with foundations built on well-being, positive self-awareness and relationships. Children will be equipped for the next stage of their education both academically, and socially and emotionally.
It exposes our children to enriching experiences, immersing them in progressive knowledge and skills; equipping them with personal characteristics required to succeed in life.
Implementation
St Paul’s Curriculum has been designed for our children to learn the knowledge, understanding and skills set out in the National Curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage in a way that incorporates our interests and school aims and values. Each subject has been carefully thought out in order to give children opportunities to enquire about different aspects of our world.
We recognise that we are all on a journey of learning and our curriculum mirrors this, using learning from previous terms and the current term so that we can embed short and long term learning. Our pupils enjoy coming to school and are happy in their learning, they are encouraged to ask questions and teachers continually strive to stretch their thinking in order for pupils to achieve their potential in a supportive, welcoming learning environment. We recognise the importance of lessons being engaging and stimulating, where pupils receive high-quality teaching and responsive feedback for improvement. We want all pupils to think hard about their learning, learn from their mistakes and strive to be the best they can be. We plan to ensure pupils revisit key themes and concepts and retrieve key knowledge to support long term memory, which will drive student progress and raise standards across the curriculum.
We also plan in opportunities for visitors and visits to fully enhance our learning by giving opportunities for specific experiences, new knowledge and new skills, while being engaging so that we can really enjoy finding out about new things and about ourselves.
Long term plans map out the coverage of the curriculum and the skills taught are in a logical and progressive order. Children will be provided with a new range of vocabulary to enable them access areas of the curriculum.
Our strategy for successful implementation of our intended curriculum is to create a culture where collaboration and professional dialogue between subject leaders delivers a curriculum that builds on prior learning, deepens knowledge and enhances skills that foster learning and achievement. We engage in a constant cycle of review and evaluation with continued professional development, pupil and staff voice at the heart of an ever evolving curriculum.
Impact
Children leave St Paul’s C of E Primary School with a secure understanding of the academic content; with the understanding of how to be socially, morally, spiritually and culturally responsible and globally aware; how to make positive contributions to the local area and how to endeavour to be the best that they can be. We aim for all our children to leave St Paul’s; respectful, skilful and ambitious, with the motivation and passions to continue to learn and with a thirst for life and all it has to offer.
