Week 2

Our second week has been very busy and finished on a high for our Year 6s when the House Captains and Vice Captains were announced in Collective Worship on Friday.  We are also looking to elect a School Council Representative, a Collective Worships Leader, School Librarians, Sports Leaders and Well Being Ambassadors.  If you child would like to be considered for any of these positions, we have asked them to write a few sentences about why they feel they would be good at that role.  We will then vote as a class to fill these positions by the end of next week.

Mrs Newbold is overseeing the Sports Leader and Well Being Ambassador positions and the children have already collected a separate form to complete if they were interested in those roles.

If you haven't already done so, it would be lovely if you could spend a few moments with your child to help them with their sentences for any role they would like to be considered for - an uplifting experience to talk about all the positives of their personalities and lives and how this is reflected in our school values.

We have enjoyed looking at Roman Numerals to 1000 in MATHS this week and have begun to look at Place Value with numbers up to 10000.  We have even managed to slot in  computer based lesson to practice using our Mathletics and Times Table Rock Stars log ins.  At St Paul's, we utilise these online learning tools for homework so that the children can embed the learning that takes place in the classroom and to aid in their fluency and speed of recall of the times tables.

A selection of this week's maths work...

In ENGLISH, our lessons have built on each other every day to produce a piece of descriptive writing for the You Choose pictures the children created last week as part of our Here We Are studies. First, we labelled our pictures with noun and expanded noun phrases.  The following day, we added an additional phrase to extend these.  Then we used these to create full sentences, which we worked into a cohesive paragraph.  Lastly, we made editing and improvements where needed.

We hope you enjoy this selection of our fabulous writing...

In SCIENCE, we have begun a topic entitled Earth and Space.  We began by naming the planets and considering their relative size in relation to the sun.  Next we planned to create group models of the solar system.  So if your child needs a cardboard box, flower pot, yoghurt pot, star stickers... this might be why!  I look forward to posting pictures of their models in due course.
