Week 4

It has been a great week in 5/6B as we get begin to approach the end of the half term. With the sun shining and the weight of SATs removed it was just nice to enjoy some time with the children and to get some really good work in books.

In maths this week we have been looking at 3D shapes. We have been discussing their properties and also using our knowledge of 3D shapes to solve reasoning questions. In English the children began to plan their story based on the book The Tunnel. The children have really been enjoying the book and there have been some great ideas that have been generated from it. With Jubilee week taking centre stage the afternoons were filled with a variety of activities (including a very special guest appearance from Mrs Newbold's Mum). The children were given the opportunity to research all about the Queen's reign up to now and from their research out together a non-chronological report. There were some amazing pieces of work and it was great to see how enthusiastic the children were with their learning. On Friday we welcomed Mrs Barbara Walsingham (aka Mrs Newbold's Mum) who talked to the children about her memories of the Queen's Coronation. It was absolutely fascinating to hear her talk about her experiences and the children then had a chance to ask some questions. Finally, we welcomed Charlotte from the Dogs Trust who talked to the children about the amazing work that the charity does.

This weeks song choice is by Birmingham's finest, The Editors and is the song Munich. Next week Mr Hawkins promises to go for something away from his usual indie/rock song choices.

Thanks,
