Week ending 16/09/22
School Council
We would like children to put themselves forward to be on our School Council. Children are asked to think about what changes they would like to see in our school and why they think they would be a good representative for their class. There is a copy of the School Council nomination form attached (hard copies are also available in class).
What is a school council?
A school council is group of students who are elected to represent the views of all pupils and to improve their school.
What does a school council do?
A school council does a number of things:
· The school council meets - usually with a teacher present - to discuss and sort out problems. These may include school lunches, behaviour or ideas for fundraising events.
· Members of the school council will be responsible for carrying out the ideas that have been agreed, such as planning events, writing reports, or meeting with pupils or staff.

Our learning this week
English
This week, we have continued reading our class text 'Here We Are'. We looked closely at some of the illustrations. As a class, we identified things the people featured had in common as well as any differences. We thought about rights and responsibilities and came up with our own social contract that would help to ensure everyone could live contently. The children have also looked closely at a number of poems and tried hard to use some figurative language within their own work.

As a class, we discussed dharma and the 10 duties Hindus have. In small groups, we created a short scene showing a duty and considered what might happen if a duty was not followed.
