Week 3 w/c 19.06.23

Another busy and HOT week !  With the Year 6 leaver performance rehearsals well underway, the Year 5s are continuing to work hard and have enjoyed some extra activities this week.

The whole school is taking part in a SCIENCE WEEK, with our lessons based on a beautiful, non fiction book.

In UKS2, we have used this book as a stimulus in our shared reading and Science lessons, with a focus on reducing single use plastic items, specifically looking at waste free packed lunches in school.  After collected the rubbish from break snack items and lunchtime and analysing it, we realised that the majority of it cannot be recycled at home !  Much of the packaging displayed the symbol to place in the bin and other items could only be recycled in store - in a supermarket for example.  The School Council are currently working on an initiative for waste free packed lunches and as part of our lessons we made posters to encourage this.

On Wednesday, Year 5 welcomed Mr Jake Wilson, who very kindly volunteered to talk to our children about his trip to Antarctica following our work on Ernest Shackleton and the Endurance Expedition.  He explained why he was given permission to visit Antarctica, showed us many amazing photographs and then performed some of the songs he wrote based on his personal journey - it was amazing !   Thank you very much indeed for sharing your works with us - such an inspiration!

On Friday, we took UKS2 to Coventry Cathedral where we all enjoyed a Storytelling event. Various religious leaders told stories from their faiths followed by a creative activity where our children could express their thoughts and learning - a valuable experience for all in a beautiful setting.
