KS1 Well Being Festival

Our KS2 well being ambassadors carried out a festival for us in the hall. The activities included mindful reading, playing rock paper scissors (with a twist), playing guess the cone pattern and creating paper chains. We then went back into our classroom and did some mindful colouring, which helped us all to feel happy and peaceful.

Computing

In Computing, we used Microsoft Word to practice our typing skills by using capital letters and the space bar. We typed out our information texts about penguins that we have been working on in English this week.

History & RE

In History, we discussed Ernest Shackleton’s most famous expedition and why it was significant. In table groups we sequenced the events in order, starting with Shackleton’s advertisement and the Endurance getting stuck in ice and then sinking. This was followed by recognising that the crew lived on the ice for 2 years after finally being rescued.

In RE, we watched an animation version of the Easter story and then discussed which parts of the story make us feel sad or happy. In addition, we discussed which colours are associated with happiness and sadness. For example, black and red makes us feel sad, whereas yellow and blue make us feel happy. For our activity, we smudged oil pastels around a template of a cross to create a blank cross surrounded by colour.

Maths

We found related facts by adding counters onto tens frames. We counted each colour and were able to write both addition and subtraction number sentences. We recognised that the numbers can be reversed and that when subtracting, we always begin with the largest number.

As a class, we practiced counting in 10s and recognised that all the numbers end in 0. We then represented the multiples of 10 up to 50 using a range of concrete resources. For example, adding counters to tens frames and using numicons and dienes. In addition, we identified how many tens and ones the number is made up of.
