Week 1
WELCOME BACK
and.....
to the countdown for Christmas !
I am so proud of the way 5/6B have come back into school after their residential trip (Yr6s), week of team building and consolidation (Yr5s) and their half term break - everyone has worked hard and with positivity.
I have particularly enjoyed taking the children Swimming for the 1st time this week. It was lovely to see how they conducted themselves outside of school and how much they all enjoyed the lesson - everyone had a smile on their face!
We have a busy term ahead - this is how it has started - ENJOY!
Our Picasso styled portraits - the children were insistent I put these pictures on 1st - they were very proud of their creations...
In our Year 5 set, we have been working on FRACTIONS in MATHS this week. We have recapped unit and non-unit fractions and equivalence and looked at improper and mixed number fractions. We saw how shapes, bar models and number lines can be used to help us in our work as a visual aide.
In ENGLISH, we are basing our work on the graphic novel The Arrival by Shaun Tan. This is a wordless text and we have spent much of the week reading the pictures, asking ourselves what can we see and what we can infer and thinking how each picture is linked. Book talk is a crucial part in our stages of writing process where we immerse ourselves into the text.
Book Talk - The Arrival by Shaun Tan
Last, but certainly not least, the children wanted me to place pictures of their fabulous poetry writing based on the Night of the Gargoyles on our page. We completed this work last half term and wrote the poems up in best for parents evening so they could be enjoyed on display by all who visited the KS2 classroom.
