Week 1

We are back!  A very warm welcome back for the second half term of the academic year. Let's hope we are blessed with good health! It has been wonderful to be altogether in class again. After the year 6 residential, being poorly and then half term it  has been so lovely to be welcomed back with  lovely smiley faces .

The children have been an absolute credit to you all.

Examples of our learning in English and history are detailed below.  For shared reading the children practised performing different types of poems-it's fair to say that Spike Milligan was a huge hit!

In maths the children have been looking at finding the area and perimeter of a range of shapes (including both rectilinear and non-rectilinear shapes).  In science we began another new topic, Material and Their Properties. We looked at what properties different materials can have and then conducted some mini experiments using a range of different equipment. It was great to do such a practical lesson. In RE we have begun learning about Buddhism and Prince Siddartha's path to enlightenment. Finally, in PE the children started their orienteering topic using a simple map to navigate their way around the playground. Zach and Kai were naturals!

It has been great to see the children so happy to be back in school, and all together again. A real joy to teach.

Have a lovely week and I hope bonfire night was enjoyed safely.

Mrs Young and Mrs Williams

In English we have been looking at the effect of writing in 1st person vs 3rd person. We looked at the events that took place in Chapter 19 and wrote down the emotions that Jim would be experiencing.

In history, the children had the tricky task of trying to place periods from British history into chronological order. Using our skills of deduction and a lot of team work, we eventually matched up the correct dates to each historical period.
