Week 2

It has been a fantastic (albeit shorter) 2nd week in 5/6B. Once we had managed to get our heads around starting the week on a Tuesday we hit the ground running with some fantastic learning throughout the week. The added good weather being a bonus!

In English this week we have begun to look at balanced arguments. The children spent time looking at features of a balanced argument and also looking at some different examples. Next we had a class debate on whether or not children should spend less time on a screen. There were some passionate arguments (mainly for) with the children eloquently making their points. We then used this to begin to plan a written balanced argument. The children have also been working on their spellings and seem to be enjoying using their spelling journals. Can we please make sure that these are being sent into school as we will be using them regularly. In maths we spent the week revising the four operations whilst also developing our knowledge of how we can use the various methods in reasoning questions. In science we continued to look at our biology themed topic by looking at reproduction in mammals. We were all impressed with the maturity that the children showed. In art we looked at famous collage artists Henri Matisse and Hannah Hoch. The children then explored colour and refamiliarised themselves with primary and secondary colours. In RE we continued to look at parables, this time looking at the parable of the tenants from Matthew.

Next week is SATs week for the year 6 children. A letter has been sent out by Mr Hawkins with some information about the week. We have been so impressed with the year 6 children and their amazing attitudes and wish them the best of luck for next week.

This weeks song is a slice of noughties indie from the band Bloc Party with the song Banquet.
