Welcome back!

It has been a pleasure to teach 2C this week!

In ENGLISH we are using the book Lila and the Secret of Rain by David Conway and Jude Daly. We established that the book was set in Kenya so we used Google Earth to locate Kenya. We started the week by looking at pictures of Kenya and an illustration in the book. We discussed what we could see in the different photos or illustrations and then we wrote expanded noun phrases. We worked in groups to sequence pictures from the story and thought about how the characters were feeling at different points of the story.

In MATHS we are continuing our work on addition and subtraction. On Tuesday we looked at the fact that we can use our number bonds for ten to derive related addition and subtraction facts. For example knowing 3 + 7 = 10 helps us to work out 30 + 70 =100. Later in the week we focused on finding one more or less than any number and then quickly moved on to finding 10 more or less than a given number. Some of us used a hundred square to help us.

In HISTORY we are learning about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. We had great fun on Friday acting out the plot. We have tried hard to learn the following rhyme.

Remember, remember the 5th November

Gunpowder, treason and plot,

I see no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.

Have a great weekend, look out for fireworks!
