"Our World; Our Continents and Oceans" Topic Entry Day

Today some of our children took their first flight courtesy of St Paul's Airline flown by Mrs Newell. There was no need to worry as all in flight safety procedures were explained and adhered to. The children then flew all around the world.

They went to Brazil in South America and made carnival hats.

They went to India in Asia and learnt some Indian dancing.

They flew to Sierra Leone in Africa and learnt about our partner school, St Charles Lwanga in Bo, and heard  a story read by Usifu Jalloh.

They flew to Norway and created chalk pictures of the Northern Lights.

On their return to Leamington, we hope they slept well and recover well from any jet lag ready for Monday. It was a great day!

English: Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson

To introduce our new text, we chose not to tell the children it's name. We asked them to listen to music and draw the images it invokes. It was whale music but how interesting to discuss and draw what we think the sounds remind us of.

The following day we went no further than the front cover. How could we describe the picture using nouns and adjectives and importantly, what do we think the creatures ( or plants) may have been saying to each other?

Maths: Shape

Lots of practical work. We'll be naming 2D and 3D shapes as well as learning the maths vocabulary associated with shapes. This week we learnt "sides" of 2D shapes. We found it was important to carefully count the sides as some shapes with sides of differing lengths confused us in the first instance!
