Reading in EYFS

Reading in EYFS

All children will need a book bag. This can either be an official St. Paul's one or a another type. We prefer it to be in addition to tany bag that goes home every day as it is the best way to keep books safe and dry from damage.

If you are finding it difficult to get one for any reason please come and speak to Mrs Cooper or Miss Hammond.

Reception

Please ensure that book bags are in school on a Monday morning. Books will then be changed ready to be returned to your child on a Wednesday afternoon. Your child will bring home picture books to share with you initially along with their reading diary. Please write a comment in their reading diary each week informing us how well they were able to share the stories and when we send home phonics books, how  they used their skills to read.

Nursery

Nursery children also need a book bag. They will have a weekly picture book and a a notebook for you to write about how they shared the book with you. Sharing stories is a valuable  and a great way to start a love of reading and the journey of learning to read. Nursery books

We would like Nursery books to be in on a Monday and will return these on a Wednesday although this will depend on the attendance pattern of some of our children and for those please Mrs Cooper will speak to you individually.
