Supporting children with special educational needs is something that is extremely important to our school. Our Headteacher, Matthew Bown taught for a number of years in special schools, took on the role of Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) in three schools and gained his National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) with an additional special needs element. During this time he worked closely with the local authority’s SEND department and provided outreach support for mainstream pupils also.
In 2015 I took on the post of SENCo, I have been teaching for 10 years and have gained a wealth of experience teaching children with many different barriers to learning . Since taking on the role I have enjoyed and embraced the challenge of constantly educating staff in ways of supporting children effectively in the classroom and working closely with outside agencies where appropriate to ensure individual children are taught using strategies tailored to their specific needs. Offering the appropriate provision and level of support for our SEND pupils is our aim and something I believe we do very well. Please feel free to discuss any SEND matters with me and I shall support you to the best of my abilities.
