Week 1

A very warm welcome back to the final half term of the academic year! We all can't quite believe how quick the time has gone and with only 6 weeks to go till the summer holidays the year really has flown! We hope everyone had a fantastic half term break, it has been good to hear about all the activities, trips and holidays the children have been doing and on.

We have dived straight back in this week and have certainly hit the ground running with our learning. English and shared reading this week have been linked to everyone's favourite author, Roald Dahl. The children looked at a text based on 'Roald Dahl Land' and considered how the author persuades the reader to visit the theme park. The children then took what they learn about persuasive writing and began to plan their own theme park and how they could persuade people to visit. There have certainly been some exciting ideas and some very imaginative rides (although I am not sure health and safety professionals would agree). In maths the children have been focussed on statistics where they spent the start of the week looking at a range of tables and answering questions based on the data that they contain. The children then moved on to timetables and again answering questions based on the data and information they contain. If any adult wants to do something practical with their child then see if they can plan a bus or train journey somewhere. In history this week the children began their new topic based around World War Two. Mr Hawkins was hugely impressed with the children's efforts as they tackled the question, 'What caused WW2?' The children were tackling GCSE level work and were discussing events like The Washington Conference, The Night of the Long Knives and The Wall Street Crash. In science we were all very impressed with the children as we had our lessons on puberty. All the groups were mature and asked some great questions. In RSE we looked at dental hygiene with much laughter at the stained teeth (ask the kids to explain).

This weeks song was inspired by Mr Hawkins half term trip to Warwick Castle and seeing the Ibiza Symphonic Orchestra. Set You Free by N-Trance. Parents and carers you are welcome for this song being brought back into your musical lives.

Thanks,
