In English, we have been writing a story about a dragon using speech and fronted adverbials.

The children started the week by creating an s plan for what they would like to happen in their story. We had already written the setting and character descriptions. Then, we have been writing the final 3 paragraphs of their dragon stories and editing them to make sure they have fronted adverbials and speech in. The children are looking forward to writing this work up neat next week.

In maths, we have been subtracting a 2 digit number from a 3 digit number crossing the hundreds.

This week, the children have been using resources such as Base 10 and Place Value Whiteboards to help them to add and subtract a 2 digit number from a 3 digit number. At first, we didn't cross into the hundreds, but as the week progressed, the children were able to exchange from the hundred's column, in order to have more tens. Then, we looked at this area but with some problem solving activities to deepen our understanding.

In science this week, we were looking at how a mirror reflects light. We used mirrors to try to bounce light from its source, to the mirror, to another place. The children could do this and see that light travels in straight lines. Then, the children wrote a secret message which their partner had to read using the mirror. Finally, we went onto the playground and tried to follow the lines on the floor by looking in the mirror to guide us.
