Week 5 - 28/9

In English we have started work on our new class text - The Arrival by Saun Tan

We used our inference skills to try and work out what the story is about from just looking at the Front cover and the first few pages. The Arrival is a book with no words so we are having to 'read' the pictures.

We stepped into the shoes of the young daughter and wrote a diary entry about her Dad's departure from her perspective.

We imagined what it would be like to be the girl in the story and wrote a Diary extract for the day her father left.  Make sure you read with tissues handy!

In Maths, we have been practising using the 'bus shelter' method of written division.  We have been continuing to use our 'rucsac' skills to solve division word problems and we have also used our reasoning skills to solve missing number problems.

In science, we learnt about why we have day and night and how and why the amount of daylight hours changes throughout the year.

We watched some great videos on the BBC Bitesize website.

In geography we are investigating Marvellous Maps so took the opportunity to go out onto the school grounds and create our own sketch maps of St Paul's.  We used aerial photographs of the school to get an idea of what we had to do then designed our own symbols for our keys.

In RE we have been studying the 5 Pillars of islam.  This week we investigated the second pillar which is Salah(Prayer).  We reflected on the times we pray and how we pray and looked at images of people around the world praying at different times and in different locations.

These are some of our ideas on why they may be praying.
