Week 1
A warm welcome back! We hope that you had a fun and restful half term break, it has been great to see
the children back in class and hear about what they have been up to. We were straight back into the swing of things this week with some excellent learning going on. The children also enjoyed the workshops that they did with Loudmouth Theatre Company which was a great way to start the week.
English - With Remembrance Sunday and Day on the horizon we took inspiration for this and looked at various poems written about the impact of war. The children then composed their own poems which, along with their artwork, have formed part of a fantastic display (see images below).
Maths - Year 5 spent the week looking at factors and factor pairs and then implementing them into reasoning questions. Year 6 have been looking at long division with Mrs Wellicome.
Afternoon subjects - In geography we looked at maps of the UK and identified the different countries, capitals and seas that surround it. PE saw Mr Challis make his teaching debut, leading a fantastic session on handball. In RE the children had to design their ideal land then discuss how they would feel if people with different world views arrived and wanted to change things. Would all change be unwelcome or were there actually some good ideas that had the potential to enhance their land? We also had a lively class debate on the US election with the children taking on the roles of voters, swing states, democrats and republicans. Ask your child to explain the electoral college vote, you'll be impressed.
Star of the week - Cory, for showing the value of challenging. Cory took on the slightly unenviable task of being the republican nominee for president (I will say no more for risk of giving away my political leaning).
