Our Ethos in Practise...
Being a Voluntary Aided Church School, Saint Paul's is managed by the Church of England and aided by grants from the Department for Education and Employment. As an aided Church of England school we endeavour to meet the requirements of the Government, the LEA and the Coventry Diocese. The Trust Deed establishes that the school was built for, "The secular and religious education of all children in the parish and as a place where they could play and worship." We therefore teach the National Curriculum and Religious Education.
Recognising that all people are made in the ‘image of God’, we aim to ensure that the curriculum is relevant to our pupils and that all children within the school have full access to all areas of learning and experience regardless of gender, race, culture or disability. The school recognises that each child is an individual, coming into the school with a variety of experience, knowledge, understanding and ability.
Our School Aims
The school aims in its planning to ensure that each child is presented with the full range of experiences at a level to challenge them; the school promotes learning with support, so that each child works to the best of his or her ability and with confidence. We also place great importance on working together in harmony, respecting and valuing differences, sharing skills and supporting each other, remembering the words of Jesus: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’.
In RE we aim to teach a basic understanding of those religions most highly represented in the school and country and, particularly, an understanding of the principles and practices of Christianity. We offer a daily opportunity for a quiet spiritual encounter, which draws upon the Christian foundation of the school while endeavouring to maintain the integrity of all religions, particularly those identified in the school. Each week one of these worship sessions is led by a member of St Paul’s Church. An area adjacent to the courtyard garden is reserved for private reflection and prayer.
At Saint Paul's we have nine main aims:
- To offer a secure and happy base in which each child can develop at her/his own rate and achieve to her/his full ability
- To promote equal opportunities in all areas of school life regardless of gender, race, culture or disability
- To provide a caring community and create a stimulating environment in our school
- To develop a reverence for God, respect for moral values, tolerance, sensitivity and an understanding of the needs of others
- To use first-hand experience, where possible, in all areas of the curriculum in order to provide relevant learning opportunities
- To develop children’s self-confidence, self-reliance and sense of personal worth
- To encourage a responsible, flexible and questioning outlook, enabling the children to cope with the challenge of society
- To promote good relationships between home, school and the community
- To ensure parental knowledge of, and to encourage their involvement in, their child’s education
